Full access along yet another road in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight could be a step closer after a wall collapse more than two years ago.
Following completion of a Ground Investigation Report (GIR), the council is now seeking external specialists to design and undertake repairs – the latest development towards the reopening of Southgrove Road.
What a Ground Investigation Report does
A GIR is a technical document that provides detailed information about the ground conditions at a site and can assist in identifying possible hazards.
Closed between Macrocarpa Road and Grove Road
Southgrove Road has been closed long-term, between its junctions with Macrocarpa Road and Grove Road.
Council: earlier delays now resolved
County Hall told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS),
“Earlier delays were the result of resource constraints affecting project management capacity, which have since been resolved.
“The council is committed to progressing the scheme and delivering the necessary repairs.”
No clear owner of collapsed wall
A surveyor was previously commissioned by the local authority to assess damage and plan necessary repairs after County Hall confirmed in May last year that ‘no clear owner’ of the collapsed wall had been discovered.
‘We’ll be able to reopen the road’
In a prior update, the council said,
“Recognising the importance of reopening the road as swiftly as possible, we’ve taken action.
“Once these repairs are completed, we’ll be able to reopen the road.
“We’re pleased to get things moving and appreciate your continued patience as we work through this process.”
