This morning VentnorBlog gave a call to the Police that were due to swim around the Island earlier in the week.
Their aim – to raise money to help save the life of an eight-year-old with cancer, stage 4 Neuroblastoma.
As Islanders will know, the weather was a bit ropey a couple of days back, so the conditions weren’t right.
Talking to Will Hughes, he told VB, “It was far too choppy,” explaining that one of the swimmers is from the Island and his Dad, a lobster man on the Island, said he wasn’t going out in the weather and suggested they didn’t either. They bowed to his knowledge and experience, rescheduling it to today.
Re-scheduled for today
They are gathering at Port Hamble this afternoon, then heading over to the Island.
The swim around the Island is scheduled to start at 4:30pm this afternoon, leaving from by the Royal Yacht Squadron in Cowes.
The plan is to swim anti-clockwise around the Island, reaching The Needles in the middle of the night.
They hope to be back after about 24-26 hours
