Best of luck to the seven cyclists from the Isle of Wight who are well on their way for this year’s Square 2 Square cycling challenge.
The team, (three Island firefighters, a local teacher, bike mechanic from TAV Cycles and two local students), set off on Saturday night from Newport and are aiming to cycle to Gibraltar in just 14 days.
They managed 135 miles on the first day in temperatures in the high 20 degrees C. The team report that the stunning Normandy countryside and a woodland ride to the campsite in the cool of the evening kept spirits up.
Cycling from Vivonne to Châtellerault on day two, the team managed a total climb of 2,421ft.
You can follow the progress of the team on the SQ2SQ Website.
