Thanks to Chris for sharing details of this upcoming event. Ed

This Saturday (22nd November) St. Alban’s Church in Upper Ventnor will be holding a ‘Songs of Praise Service’ dedicated in memory of the former mayor of Ventnor, the late Joan Evelyn Philpott (pictured), marking the 15th anniversary since her death on the 22nd November 1999.

The musical service will also pay tribute to the martyred Saint, Cecilia (died. 180 AD) – the patron saint of music whose Feast Day is celebrated this Saturday in the Christian calendar.

A range of well known hymns and patriotic songs will fill the air in the church that Mrs Philpott was once Chapel Warden of.

An active member of the community
Well-known, locally in Ventnor, Mrs Philpott was an active member of the community serving on Ventnor Town Council, Ventnor Branch Conservatives and held the position as Ventnor Town Mayor.

The Service will feature motets sung by St. Alban’s Church Choir, under the conduction of musical director and organist Mr Andrew Pellow, organised by Mrs Philpott’s only grandson, the illusionist Chris Philpott.

The Songs of Praise service will be led by Fr. John Ryder and starts at 2pm. All welcome. Light Refreshments available after the service.
