St Catherine’s Charity Shop Raises £50,000

St Catherine’s charity shop – located on the High Street in Newport – will be closing its doors temporarily on Saturday 7th August after a really successful year.

St Catherine's Charity Shop Raises £50,000Over £50,000 has been raised through wholly donated goods for the charity, which supports children and young people with speech, language and communication disabilities.

This has been St Catherine’s first shop venture outside of Ventnor – where its residential centre of excellence for education, speech and language therapy is located and which is attended by children and young people from across the UK, including many from the Island.

As Kim Fry, St Catherine’s Community Fundraiser explained, “The shop has been such a success for St Catherine’s in many ways. As well as raising a significant amount of money in tough economic times and giving our young people the chance to undertake work experience, it has also helped to raise awareness of speech, language and communication disabilities.

“We would like to thank all those who have helped to make our first year such a triumph including our volunteers, all those who have donated goods and our loyal customers. New commercial tenants will shortly be moving into our current premises – so the search is on for a new central location in Newport for St Catherine’s charity shop. Watch this space!”
