St George’s Nursery in Arreton awarded ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating

St George’s Nursery and Pre-School in Arreton has received an ‘outstanding’ rating in all areas following its recent Ofsted inspection.

The nursery, situated within the grounds of Arreton C of E Primary School, was praised for its exceptional environment and high standards of care. It maintains close ties with the local school community, even as Arreton Primary faces uncertainty under the Isle of Wight council’s school place planning review.

A place where children thrive
Ofsted inspectors highlighted that children “thrive at this exciting, home-from-home nursery”. Upon arrival, children were observed to be happy, eager to learn and deeply engaged in purposeful activities created by staff.

The report noted that these activities are tailored to meet individual needs, ensuring every child receives personalised support. The dedication of the experienced staff was a recurring theme, with inspectors praising their ability to extend children’s learning through every opportunity.

Exceptional behaviour and communication skills

Strong emphasis is placed on developing communication and language skills. The report commended the nursery’s excellent arrangements in this area, describing an environment carefully designed with children in mind.

Supportive leadership and strong community links
Leaders at St George’s Nursery received high praise for their support of staff and their commitment to professional development. Ofsted described the tailored programmes designed for children as “extremely effective” in meeting their needs.

The report also highlighted the exceptional relationships leaders have cultivated with parents, local schools, and other settings children attend. These partnerships ensure a seamless transition for children moving through their early education.

A bright spot amid uncertainty
The outstanding Ofsted rating provides a positive focus for the community amid the backdrop of potential school closures. St George’s Nursery continues to demonstrate the value of close collaboration and a child-centred approach to education.

Parents and staff can take pride in this well-deserved recognition, which underscores the nursery’s vital role in the local area.

A spokesperson for the nursery told OnTheWight,

“We are thrilled to announce that following our recent OFSTED inspection St Georges Nursery and Pre-School has been rated Outstanding in all areas.

“This result is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the staff team and their passion for early years education which shines through in all of their interactions with the children.

“As always these outcomes wouldn’t be possible without the wonderful children and supportive families that we are so lucky and privileged to be able to work with every day.

“The report describes us as a ‘home from home nursery’ which is what he have always aspired towards, being more than aware that children will learn, develop and thrive in an environment where they feel nurtured and secure.”
