On Tuesday, the Southern Daily Echo revealed through a leaked internal Red Funnel document that the ferry company plan to “axe staff and slash services after a dramatic £1.4m slump in business.”
As VB readers will already know, from November, Red Funnel are planning to reduce their passenger ferry timetable, cutting the number of RedJet crossings during off-peak times during the week and on Sundays.
Small number of staff to go
Fewer crossings will inevitably lead to a reduction of staff with a representative from Red Funnel telling VB today that the changes to the timetable “will involve a small number of individuals leaving its fleet team.”
Going on to say, “A consultation process is in place with staff and it is hoped that any leavers from the business will depart on a voluntary basis.”
Some pretty surprising statistics relating to the financial viability of Red Funnel are revealed in the Daily Echo article.
