Barry’s story:
“I sleep a lot better, my chest is a lot clearer, and I’ve got a lot more energy. I also have a lot more money… I was buying a packet every day – that’s over £100 per week, so that’s obviously made a difference as well.
“I’d been smoking for 40 years, so if I can do it, other people can do it as well”
The day you stop smoking, your body begins to clear itself of toxins and after the first few days and weeks, you’ll notice:
- You can smell and taste better.
- You can breathe more easily.
- You’ll have more energy.

Lucille’s story:
“For a long time now, my husband has been saying that we need to stop smoking. I used to say to him ‘when the time comes, I’ll do it but not now’.
“The time came in January when I had a heart attack. When doctors told me that smoking had caused it, it was a clear way of telling me to quit.
“Once I stopped smoking my husband did too. Before, we used to sit and smoke while the kids were away from us. Now we do lots of things as a family…”
It’s never too late to quit
By stopping smoking, you reduce the longer-term risks of cancer, lung disease, heart disease and stroke. Quit now for a healthier future.

Aaron’s story:
“I started smoking as a teenager. I decided to give up because I’d had enough of the constant emotional battle. I enjoy it but I don’t want to do it and that is your rut.
“The issue is you become addicted, which means no matter if you don’t want to do it – you are still going to do it.
“I have stopped and failed many times. I have actually tried many times, and reached out for support, and the great thing about the stop smoking groups is that they always welcome me back.
“I’ve found that trying to meet and integrate into new communities was powerful… beforehand I would never have done 5k runs. I still have cravings, but it’s telling myself that’s okay.
“It’s nice to just let that go and actually enjoy what you’re doing with people.”
