Stephen Wight is an actor, who not only lived on the Isle of Wight, went to school here, but took the name of the place as his stage name. That’s what you call devotion to the Island.
That aside, why are we writing about him? Well, after treading the boards for quite a few years, he’s got a leading role in the first narrative comedy series commission from Comedy Central UK. Quite a big thing in UK TV circles.
Threesome, as it’s called, has been running for a few weeks but it’s only seeing it on the County Press Website that brought it to our attention.
The real story-line
For some reason, the County Press have been a little coy, dancing around the setup for the story.
Yes, there are three characters in the story and yes, the female role, Alice – played by Amy Huberman, is pregnant, but the reason it’s called Threesome is that in the lead up to Alice’s 30th birthday, they all go out on a big night out and end up in bed together, having … a Threesome.
Alice later comes to realise that she’s pregnant.
It’s complicated
In episode one, Stephen’s character, Mitch, learns from his visit to the sperm bank that he’s infertile.
The other male character, Richie, played by Emun Elliott, is gay.
Suffice to say that their relationship setting on Facebook would be set to “It’s complicated”.
The series is all about their need to change from their partying times to dealing with the impending reality of child birth, in a less than conventional situation.
There’s a Website about the series and here’s a vid where the three stars are interviewed at the launch of the show …
West End next
As we mention at the top of the page, Stephen’s a bit of a rising star in the acting world (he’s even got a fan page on Facebook!) – his next major role is in The Ladykillers in the West End opening at the end of the year.
He’s done the Island proud.
