Stop The Cuts March, Mark Chiverton (podcast)

After Saturday’s Stop The Cuts march and rally in Newport, we caught up with Unison branch rep for the Isle of Woght, Mark Chiverton.

Mark expressed how pleased he was with the turnout and reception for the march, which attracted several hundred workers and service users.

Mark explained that the next practical steps were to lobby local councillors and take part in the demos at 4pm outside Lord Louis Library and 5pm outside County Hall on Wednesday 23rd February.

He also spoke of the TUC march on 26th March, calling for a change to the national strategy on budget cuts.

When asked about David Pugh’s reported comment that marching wouldn’t make a difference, Mark made clear his disappointment and went onto say that Pugh was aware the Island had been short changed and his council needed to do more to rectify this.
