Storm Angus on the Isle of Wight: Amber weather warning and flood alert

Storm Angus, the first named storm of Autumn 2016, has resulted in the Met Office having to update their severe weather warning issued on Friday.

An Amber warning for wind is now in place, valid from 02:00 on 11:00 on Sun 20 Nov 2016

Storm Angus is expected to bring some very strong winds to coastal counties of southeast England for a time on Sunday morning, when gusts of 70-80 mph are possible.

Be prepared for disruption to travel services, interruptions to power supplies and some damage to buildings.

In addition, the Yellow warning of rain and wind now reads,

Valid from: 21:00 on Sat 19 Nov 2016 to 14:00 on Sun 20 Nov 2016

A spell of heavy rain and some very strong winds are expected to sweep across southern and southeastern parts of England during Saturday night and Sunday morning. Gusts of 45-55 mph are likely inland and 60-65 mph near English Channel coasts, but we expect the strongest winds to affect coastal counties from the Isle of Wight eastwards, where 70-80 mph gusts are possible (see separate Amber warning).

Please be aware of the risk of difficult driving conditions due to localised surface water flooding and possible debris from trees.
