An additional late crossing during of the Floating Bridge will be trialled during the Summer months (June 1 to August 31) to connect with the 23.59 Red Funnel Car Ferry departure from Southampton.
It means the Floating Bridge will make a single crossing from East Cowes at 01.20 after its regular shut down time of 00.30
Cllr Phil Jordan, Isle of Wight Council’s cabinet member for Transport and Infrastructure explained the reasoning behind the move,
“Last year we carried out a survey of Saver Card holders who are regular users of the service. One of the suggestions made to us was for a late-night link up to meet the last car ferry of the day from Southampton.
“The council wanted to respond to this idea in a positive way and believe it is important to improve transport connections on the Island when we can, hence the introduction of this trial until the end of August.”
Please note there will be no additional crossings from Cowes to East Cowes.
