Last week’s Sunday Politics South focused on the Isle of Wight, in particular, the first anniversary of the Island Independent councillors gaining control of the Isle of Wight Council.
Political correspondent, Jessica Parker, came to the Island to interview leader of the council, Ian Stephens, the One year on Wendy Cook, the Independent PPC, who withdrew her candidacy a week after her selection was announced, gives Jess her reaction to the backlash of opinion over her previous drink-driving offences.
The feature also touches on the confusion between the Isle of Wight elected Island Independent councillors and the Association of Island Independents. Filming in Ventnor As can so often be the case, the 20-30 questions and answers that we shot ended up on the cutting room floor, with a single answer being shown in the broadcast programme.
It wasn’t all for naught, some of the clips that we had done did get used on BBC Radio Solent on the Friday morning, where the then-upcoming programme was trailed.
The Isle of Wight feature starts at 46:22. It will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer until 12.14pm tomorrow Sunday 11th May).
Cllr Stephens explains that his administration won’t be able to achieve everything they hope for in the next three years and aspires for the Island Independents to have at least a further two terms in office.
I spent an enjoyable couple of hours with Jess and her cameraman as we wandered around one of Ventnor’s cliff edge and shot footage of the OnTheWight Website.
