Sunday’s Train and Ferry Madness

We’ve given you the heads up on the transport shenanigans that have been affecting the train service between Portsmouth station and London.

Sunday's Train and Ferry MadnessWell, the details on the Sunday palaver escaped our attention, luckily Stuart George, Deputy Chairman of the Isle of Wight Bus Users’ Group dropped over today and in the conversation we heard that as the Great South Run is in Portsmouth on Sunday (also highlighted by Lowtherville Lout), things have become even more complex that just the train line being closed.

If you take the FastCat to Ryde, you’ll have to get the Gosport ferry to Gosport (!) – then a bus from there to Haselemere to rejoin the train.

Don’t laugh … it’s true.

Car Ferry Diverted Too
The fun doesn’t stop there. If you’re on the car ferry from Lymington, you’ll be docking at the continental ferry terminal, not the normal Portsmouth harbour – because of the run.

The same – but in reverse – will apply for those travelling from the mainland to the Island.

It’s amazing that more hasn’t been made of this in the media really given the huge disruption.

Best advice … don’t try to get to travel off the Island to or from Portsmouth on Sunday – or as mikey p pointed out, Just go to Southampton
