Sainsbury’s will be opening a branch in Ryde’s Union Street.
They have signed a deal to take control of two shops, Sweet Chariot and Stanley’s on the main street in Ryde.
The shop won’t be a full-sized supermarket, but a Sainsbury Local, their brand for convenience stores.
Official comfirmation
We’ve held this story, awaiting the official confirmation from Sainsbury, that didn’t arrive because of “last minute legals that needed sorting before anything could be said publicly”. That finally arrived this afternoon.
Sainsbury’s tells on OnTheWight that they hope it will create around 20 full-time and part-time jobs for local people.
Think 25 policy
Sainsbury’s will be applying for an alcohol licence but operate a Think 25 policy to ensure that alcohol is not sold to underage people
Next stage will be an application for planning and they hope to open “in the summer”.
