Technology In Schools: Island Conference This Weekend

There’s a funny thing about the Isle of Wight, amazing things go on here, that no one would have guessed.

Technology In Schools: Island Conference This Weekend An example is happening this weekend. Joe Dale, language teacher at Nodehill Middle School, has arranged a world-class conference about the use of technology in education – and it’s taking place in Newport.

We were so impressed with his idea, enthusiasm and work, that we wanted to support it, so VentnorBlog was pleased to become sponsors of the event. We strongly believe that this kind of innovative thinking will make a huge difference not only to children’s education, but draw further positive attention to the Island.

The events starts on Friday evening where there’s a familiarisation session with teachers from not just the Island and the UK, but there are visitors from around the world! It’s called a Show and Tell session and will be taking place in the events room at the Castle Inn, Newport with a free buffet.

The Saturday is packed with fascinating sessions covering podcasting, blogging, animation, interactivity, creating videos, how ICT can transform students learning experiences, Web 2.0 and video conferencing.

Frankly once you’ve attended this, there’s very little left that you’ll need to know about.

Not only are the attendees International, but so are those delivering the lectures. Joe has arranged up a World-class line up.

Hats off to his hard work on this one, pulling together a second year of greatness.

Joe doesn’t just talk a good game with this, he’s out in the real world doing it. Proof of this came in the shape of a radio show on Radio 5 Live narrated by one of the Nodehill pupils, Ashley, covering how blogs and podcasts are being embedded into the curriculum and how they are enhancing learning.

Nodehill has embraced modern technology with both hands to the point where they run a blog for more or less every learning subject and class.

If you’ve ever wanted to get to grips with how technology could be used in teaching, especially modern languages, this will be the best £51 pounds you’ll ever spend – it even includes the food!
