Terraced houses planned for former brewery site

After standing empty for nearly four years, plans are afoot to redevelop former Ventnor Brewery

It’s nearly four years since Ventnor Brewery had to close their doors.

It was a sad day for all who loved the brewery and their beers, but life goes on and the buildings they once occupied on Ventnor High Street have stood empty and unloved since.

A planning application is currently out to public consultation to build a terrace of three houses of modern design on the plot.

Residents have until 28th December to make their views known to the council either using the online form or by commenting in writing to

Perhaps the new houses will be attractive, well-built and sustainable, and worth supporting. But it’s still a crying shame that Ventnor Brewery closed because of the financial crisis caused by the people running the world’s finances. Blends in with the Telephone Exchange.


Its sad that somebody couldnt re-open the brewery again. Another piece of old ventnor gone. I shall be sad to see the changes when i come home.
In reply to “tulsevent’s” comment i can only say that at least the Telephone Exchange was built on a former bombsite and they didnt have to demolish a bit of old Ventnor.

Would have been better for Ventnor and employment there if the Brewery could have be rescued and put back to work. If we just close all the viable businesses and built more flats and small houses,where is the work for the Island population on the Island going to come from? its a shame that it will no longer be a brewery could have been great to employ job-seekers to learn the art of brewing beers
when is it all going to end.
More jobs not available for the Ventnor area. unless you are an estate agent ?
