Tesco denies new store in Newport

If you’ve heard the rumour about a new Tesco Express in Newport/Carisbrooke ignore it. Tesco say they have no current plans there.

Rumours have been circulating that Tesco are planning to open a new Express branch on the borders of Newport/Carisbrooke.

The former site of Hartwells Vauxhall garage on the corner of Carisbrooke Road and Wellington Road has been empty for some time.

We’d received a tip-off that Tesco were planning to start recruiting for an Express store on the site.

However, a spokesperson from Tesco Corporate Affairs told On The Wight, “Usually we do not comment on rumours or speculation, but can confirm that we have no current plans for a store at this site.”

That clear that up then!

Did you get a chance to ask about progress on Ventnor? I doubt they will hit their target of December – the signs mentioning this disappeared when the hoarding was changed and it has slowed down a lot since the old building was removed.
