The Carni Is Coming To Town

In case you hadn’t got yourself a Carnival programme yet and were wondering what the proceedings for today were …. here you go.

courtesy of specialcollections.tulane.eduIf you have kiddies who want to take part in the children’s fancy dress parade, please get yourselves down to Dudley Road for 1.45pm. The procession through town to the park sets off at 2pm.

The route is Pier Street, Church Street, Belgrave Road, Park Avenue ending at Ventnor Park. The crowing of Carnival Queens (Senior Queen – Chrissie Viney, Senior Princesses – Jess Smith and Jade Franklin, Junior Queen – Chaise Davies-Upsall, Junior Princesses – Mimi Leonard and Emma Donbavand) will take place at 2.30pm and will be followed by judging for the fancy dress competition.

Even if you don’t have kids taking part, please come out onto the streets to support those who have worked hard on their costumes and cheer them along. We all know how good positive encouragement feels, so think of the kiddies.

The Grand Carnival Parade takes place this evening, with floats assembling at 5.30pm (Dudley Road again), judging starts at 6pm and the procession gets moving at 7pm. The route this year is slightly different, heading up Pier Street, High Street, Madeira Road, St Catherines Street, Victoria Street, Albert Street, Pier Street, Church Street, Belgrave Road, Park Avenue.

Even if you’re not taking part in a float, that’s no excuse to not dress up and join in the mayhem. The sky is looking a bit grey this morning, but don’t let that put you off.

It’s going to be a great day! Viva Ventnor!

(PS. if it is raining, queen crowning takes place at Ventnor Winter Gardens)
