Isle of Wight food producers have had some fantastic promotion on ITV’s The Hungry Sailors programme over the past few days.
Father and son team, Dick and James Strawbridge, are on a journey of food discovery around Britain’s coastline and reached the Isle of Wight last Friday.
They leave their beautiful pilot cutter, the Amelie Rose, and continue the journey around the Island by bicycle, firstly meeting bee-keeper, Mary Case, where they take a look inside some of Mary’s many bee-hives.
Veal, cherries and clotted-cream
They then head over to Briddlesford Lodge Farm for some veal myth-busting, before making their way to Godshill Cherry Farm where they pick and cook some of the best cherries in the UK.
No rest for the wicked though as next it’s on to Three Gates Farm next to make some clotted cream, before finally ending the day at the Needles Park where they attempt to make some hard boiled sweets.
Garlic, tomatoes, chicken-liver pate and fresh fish
Monday’s programme had Dick and James checking out the Island’s very own giant garlic at The Garlic Farm. They made a visit to Brownrigg Poultry at Sheepwash Farm in Godshill, were lifted high above the canopy of tomatoes at Wight Salads, made Chicken Liver pate at Bembridge Deli, before going out on the fishing boat with Mike from the Bembridge Fish Shop to catch some Huss.
The programmes are still available on the ITV Player for almost a month.
