If you read Dave Champion’s review of The Bees’ gig earlier today (and btw, aren’t Julian’s shots of the night fantastic?), you might’ve picked up the news that support band, The Shutes, are in the process of signing a deal with Sony/ATV.
Pretty major news for this three-piece band from the Island who’ve been causing a storm across Europe, so we thought it deserved an article of its own.
Mike Champion takes care of the the vocals/guitar, Chris Jones does wonderful things with the drum kit and Rob Potter provides the melodic bass lines for this band, whose music is hard to fit into a category.
Psychedelic pop sort of covers it, but their vintage sound with a contemporary twist has managed to make them stand out against the thousands of other young hopefuls in the music industry.
The global publishing deal will mean that you’ll start to hear Shutes tracks on more than just your iPod. Cue TV advertising, lifestyle programmes and films.
The deal is not to be mistaken with a record deal however. The lads tell us that they’ll still be releasing music independently of Sony.
In fact, they have a five track EP coming out in September. Just in time for Bestival no doubt.
We’ve been massive fans of The Shutes since the beginning and knew that’d go far. Best of luck for the future guys.
Not heard The Shutes before, check out their MySpace until you buy the EP.
