A new weekly creative writing workshop aims to bring back the fun of storytelling for children this summer.
Lemon Jelly Press, a not-for-profit community publisher based on the Isle of Wight, is launching The Silly Sentence Club – a light-hearted series of online writing sessions designed for children aged around 8 to 12.
Joyful sessions for young writers
The workshops begin on Tuesday 29th July and will run every Tuesday at 2pm (UK time) throughout the summer.
Delivered via Zoom, each session costs just £3 per household, with siblings welcome to join in on the same screen.
Confidence through creativity
The sessions are designed to be low-pressure and engaging, with a focus on creativity, silliness and self-expression.
They aim to support children of all abilities – especially those who find English lessons difficult or have lost confidence in their writing skills.
Those taking part can expect silly stories, nonsense poetry, and plenty of laughter, all while quietly building writing confidence and literacy skills.
A playful approach to words
Lottie Begg, founder of Lemon Jelly Press, says,
“We know not every child thrives in formal English lessons, so this is about playful learning, confidence-building, and remembering that words can be fun.”
