The Stranglers To Play Ryde Theatre

Following the fantastic news of Patti Smith coming to the Island next month, another musical coup has just been announced this time by Island Promoters, Home Grown.

The Stranglers To Play Ryde TheatreCome July, there’s a distinct possibility of seeing members of The Stranglers taking their shoes off, rolling up their trousers and walking on the fine beaches of the Isle of Wight. But the big question is, will they be talking to the peaches?

Yes folks, 9th July sees The Stranglers (that’s all four of them) set sail across the water once again, this time to play Ryde Theatre.

The band, who first formed way back in 1974 are fondly remembered for their legendary hit ‘Golden Brown’, as well as ‘Peaches’, ‘No More Heroes’, ‘Duchess’, ‘Something Better Change’ and ‘Always the Sun’.

But that was all back in the 70s and 80s, so what have the guys been up to lately?

The Stranglers To Play Ryde TheatreWell, since 2004 when they re-signed to EMI, they’ve released another two albums, considered by some to the best music produced by them for over 20 years.

Last year they were busy touring the festival circuit making appearances at T in the Park, V Festival, Hyde Park, Oxygen, Liverpool Pops and of course The Isle of Wight Festival.

Promoter John Curd, whose company Home Grown is promoting the gig, has been in the music biz for over 30 years promoting large-scale festivals and concerts.

Apparently, he was the man behind the sell-out dates at Brixton Academy and Hammersmith Apollo for The Sex Pistols reunion tour, so certainly knows his stuff. We’ve even heard whispers that John Curd is known as ‘the’ man behind the UK Punk Scene.

So, if you want to see The Stranglers warm up on the Isle of Wight for their performance the next day at Guilfest, you know what to do.
