The versatile euphonium features in final Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra Concert of the season

The Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra’s concert on Saturday 9th July promises to be a fascinating evening of musical entertainment.

The varied programme features local soloist Will Doyle in a World premiere, a sparkling new arrangement of Gordon Jacob’s Fantasia for Euphonium.

Euphonium a rare sight in an orchestral setting
Now working as Vice Principal at Ryde Academy, Will began his musical education on the Isle of Wight, going on to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and playing with the celebrated Tredegar Band.

The versatile euphonium is a rare sight in an orchestral setting.

New version prepared by orchestra member
Although the piece was originally written with wind band accompaniment, the new version was prepared by professional arranger and orchestra member, Phillip Littlemore.

The colours of the ensemble highlight the lyricism and nimble dexterity possible on the euphonium. This is a highly appealing work from a composer whose music deserves reappraisal.

Programme brimming with orchestral favourites
The rest of the programme is brimming with orchestral favourites including Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, Johann Strauss’ collection of waltzes ‘The Blue Danube’ and Offenbach’s brilliant overture from ‘Orpheus in the Underworld’.

After an overwhelmingly successful series of concerts, the orchestra wishes to extend its thanks to the large audiences that have returned over the last year.

The evening begins at 7.15pm and the orchestra is delighted to be supporting Ability Dogs for Young People at all of its concerts this season.
