Three weeks of speed restrictions on Medina Way dual carriageway

The Medina Way dual carriage way (Yes, the dual carriageway), will be restricted to 40mph speed limit from 7.30pm tonight (Thursday 8 October) for three weeks, whilst Island Roads carry out safety barrier works.

The notice issued by Island Roads today reads,

Island Roads on behalf of The Isle of Wight Council will introduce a temporary 40 mph speed restriction on the northbound carriageway of A3020 Medina Way, Newport.

The restriction will be in operation from a point 50 metres to the north the junction with the Fairlee Link Road (adjacent to the south eastern end of Medina Bridge) to a point 178 metres south of St Mary’s Roundabout (at the start of the existing 40 mph speed restriction), from 1930 hours on Thursday 8 October until 1930 hours on Thursday 29 October 2015 or until safety works have been completed, whichever is the sooner.

No speed limit imposed by this Order applies to falling with Regulation 3 (4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces)(Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with Regulation 3b (5) of those Regulations. “Special Forces” has the same meaning as defined in the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011.

The 40mph speed restriction is required due to road safety and is necessary until safety barrier works have been undertaken.
