Todd MacFarlane and other Comic Con stars to take part in Isle of Wight Heroes Con event for charity

A pair of Islanders have organised a fundraising event to support the vital and much appreciated work of the YMCA Young Carers team.

Nicola Symmonds from the Comic and Collectibles shop, Heroes, and Rob Mead have organised a Comic Con style event to take place on 10th April 2022 between 10am-5pm at Quay Arts, Newport.

IW-Heroes Con will be a free entry event, with donations going to YMCA Young Carers. There’s loads to see and do all day.

Main Area – All Day

  • Live art with Dan Digby Comic Art
  • Live art with Adam Gaterell
  • Live caricature art with Adam Brown
  • Little Heroes Art Corner (Comic book cover art competition)
  • Local vendors
  • VR Gaming
  • Raffle (All proceeds going to the YMCA Young Carers, Isle of Wight. Charity buckets will also be circulating)
  • Photo ops with life size ET – Replica Tardis and more
  • Isle of Wight Garrison.

On The Stage

  • 10.30-11.15 – Heroes special launch announcements
  • 11.30-12.00 – Live talk and Q&A with Russell Sheath of Commando Comics
  • 12.00-12.30 – Virtual Chat with Geoff Senior (Illustrator for Transformers comics 1980s and Judge Dredd) and Simon Furman (writer for Transformers by Marvel Comics)
  • 13.00-14.00 – Gaming Tournament and Game show hosted by Alex Watts
  • 14.30-15.30 – Cosplay contest hosted by Robin Flux (Master of Disguise)

Todd MacFarlane
Between 16.00-17.00 the biggest event of the day. joining the event remotely from his home in America, a virtual interview and live audience Q&A with comic book legend Todd MacFarlane.

Todd is a comic book creator, artist, writer, filmmaker and entrepreneur, best known for his work as the artist on The Amazing Spider-Man and as the writer and artist on the superhero horror-fantasy series Spawn!

Prizes galore
Throughout the day there’ll be lots of prizes to be won, with all goodie bags donated by Heroes.

As well as Quay Arts giving up their space free of charge, every person taking part is giving up their time for free.

Vendors taking part and many local businesses have also donated items for the raffle. Teemill have also sponsored the event by producing 21 Free event Tees for staff and volunteers. Beardsalls donated stationery and paper for the little Heroes Art corner.
