Totland Bay Landslide

Totland landslide continues to ‘show signs of movement’

It might surprise readers to know that it’s been almost a year since the Totland landslide.

Readers will remember the extent of the damage caused to the seawall between Totland and Colwell Bays at the end of 2012 by the landslide. It resulted in closure of the coastal path between the two bays which remains in place today.

Those interested in what is planned to tackle the problems caused by the landslide will be pleased to know that a report is due next month from specialist consultants.

It is very hazardous
A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight council told OnTheWight,

“The landslide continues to show signs of movement, and now the sea is washing through the gaps in the damaged wall eroding the soft material behind.

“It is very hazardous and we continue to strongly advise the public to avoid the area.

“Specialist consultants have been surveying the area and are due to report back with their findings, including possible solutions, in December.”
