A vacancy has come up with the Ventnor Town Council for the part-time position of Town Clerk, so if you happen to have either the Certificate in Local Council Administration, the Certificate HE in Local Policy or the Certificate HE in the Foundation Degree in Community Engagement and Governance (CEG) you could be in the running for this position (described below).
You may be a Town Clerk elsewhere, or have worked in local Government, or perhaps looking for a comfortable transition into retirement. If so, this role could be for you.
And where better to work but the beautiful town of Ventnor on the Isle of Wight?
Why Ventnor?
Ventnor has gained an International reputation as one of the places to be, having been voted one of the hippest hangouts in the world by Harpers Bazaar.
In 2008 the town was voted Britain’s 7th Top Town by Coast Magazine, so it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that Ventnor recently became joint top in UK beach awards by the Keep Britain Tidy Campaign and has retained it’s Blue Flag once again this year.
Gastro delights
One reason the town has been gaining attention is the influx of great new restaurants and delicatessens.
The town now sports a Michelin star restaurant in The Hambrough, as well as AA double rosette restaurant at the Royal Hotel and has a growing list gourmet restaurants and delis stocking local Island produce.
Traditionally a small fishing village, Ventnor’s population exploded in Victorian times when it was fashionable to visit and take in the benefits of the clean sea air.
World Class Coastline
Ventnor is blessed with a world class coastline. Charles Dickens said of the town when he visited that it was “the prettiest place I ever saw in my life, at home or abroad”.
If you like the outdoors, there are some beautiful coastal walks as well as plenty of more subdued activities such as bowls and petanque.
Active clubs and organisations
If you’re someone who likes to stay busy, there are a great selection of clubs in the area, from the local history society to the horticultural society, as well as plenty of community groups for those who like to volunteer their time.
The vacancy is for a total of 96 hours per month and the Town Council are looking for someone who is happy to use modern technology as part of their role.
You’ll find details of other requirements below and if you think you fit the part why not go for it!
Best of luck.
