Detectives on the Isle of Wight are appealing for witnesses after three people threatened a man in his own home and demanded money.

It happened on Monday, January 5 shortly before 7pm at a house in Lea Road, Sandown.

The victim was sitting on his bed when three people, he describes as youths who had their faces covered, got into the property through the front door. They went into the bedroom where one of them threatened the man demanding cash, while the other two looked around the room.

Suspects scared off
The victim then went to get up. This spooked the trio who then rushed out. The victim made his way to the front door and believes he saw one of the three making off towards New Road.

He believes they were all being aged between 16 and 20 and slim. He has told officers one had blue eyes and freckles and was about 5ft 6 inches tall. The second youth was slightly shorter and the third one he describes as being of mixed race and about 6ft tall.

Detective Constable Jess Hughes from Newport CID said:

“This kind of incident is very unusual on the Island and we are keen to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area around the time it happened. We’d also like to hear from anyone who has any other information about the crime.”
