TT Racing For The Isle of Wight?

A new Facebook campaign has been created today. Its aim to raise support to bring TT races to the Isle of Wight.

TT, aka Tourist Trophy Races take place all over the world. The Isle of Man is probably one of the best known locations for TT races, with news reported today that TT Races on the Isle of Man recently resulted in £20million of revenue income.

Generating support and awareness
The Facebook page was set up by Kara Rann, she told VB, “I’ve started the Facebook campaign in order to generate support and awareness. This is my first key to unlocking the door, I feel.”

We asked Kara why she started the campaign, “The reason I started this campaign was purely because my partner has competed in the Irish Road Race Championships, and is competing in a few races in Northern Ireland in August,” she said.

“Having seen the amount of revenue generated by the Isle of Wight festival more recently, I feel that in the economic climate the Isle of Wight would benefit from an event that would bring riders from all over the UK.”

Could generate £millions for Island
With support from the Isle of Wight council, Kara believes TT Races on the Island could result in very positive boost for the Island economy.

She told us, “Frankly, I feel that if the council are able to arrange and assist with the organising of a three day event that affects everyone for at least one week, then why can’t we shut off a few roads for six hours a day for two days. If we were able to host an event 1/20th of the size of the Isle of Man TT that would alone generate around £1million.”

We’re sure that VB readers will have mixed views on the concept of annual IW TT Races, why not leave a comment below to let Kara know whether you think it’d be a good idea.
