Undecided Art Collective create ‘inside the box’ for latest exhibition

Last updated:

If you’re looking for some creative inspiration or cultural indulgence later this week, head to Ventnor (where else?).

The brilliant Undecided Art Collective will be launching their latest exhibition, titled Undecided² at Ventnor Exchange for four days from Friday 29th April.

Once again a quirky and interesting theme has been set for the artists.

Thinking inside the box
Rachael Berry explains,

Huey Lewis once said “It’s hip to be square”, but as artists we are constantly told to think outside the box.

Undecided² is the 12th exhibition by the Undecided Art Collective and the first themed show in which we’ve opted for a format rather than a topic, shamelessly encouraging our ever-growing band of contemporary Artists to think INSIDE the box.

As long as all sides of the work are of equal length, anything goes. Expect an inspiring array of art forms on display, including kinetic paper cuts, contemporary embroidery and quirky dioramas.

Who’s taking part?
You can see work in the exhibition featured by all these wonderfully creative artists:

Fran Heath
Julie Barnes
Rachael Berry
Stephen Butterfield
Holly Cade
Teresa Grimaldi
Chris Jones
Mhairi Macaulay
Maya Malfatti

We’re really looking forward to seeing what they’ve come up with for this theme.

The show runs 5-11pm on Friday 29th and then 10am-5pm Saturday 30th April to Monday 2nd May.

Apologies to the artist for having to crop the poster at the top of our article, here’s the full poster in all its glory

Clever, isn’t it? Government squeezes LAs so that they have to shuffle services off to local councils who are not restricted in the precept increases they can apply. Government decrees rises in Minimum Wage which dosn’t cost government a penny as it’s paid by employers, but gov gets increased tax and NI revenue as all wages have to go up to maintain differentials. Then they (and their… Read more »

Well it’s a start. When the high st is crumbling, costing jobs and revenue, when the roads are crumbling, adding risk and damaging perceptions, when enterprise most needs support to help it employ more people and add more value, the Town Councils response was? A tide bell.

Let’s not try suggesting that VTC should be doing things that IWC are responsible for.

And I thought the tide bell was a better idea than the town crier. Not a good idea. Just better than the appalling one.

Surely if the energy expended on a bell was expended gettingvIOWC to do their job maybe Ventnor would be in better shape. It’s like VTC is operating in some kind of parallel world. They need to get the basics in order, work out and deliver what makes the most positive impacts ie long term real improvement that will endure and foster growth. A bell and a town… Read more »

I agree with you about the Crier, and it is welcome that the council has abandoned this proposal. But the tide bells around the UK are an imaginative arts project, that would have fitted well with Ventnor’s growing reputation as a creative centre, and helped attract visitors to the town. The bell itself (costing tens of £thousands) would have been entirely privately funded by the arts trust… Read more »

I asked 10 mates who travel extensively for fun in the U.K. (and who know and like a good cultural experience when they see one) if a tide bell would make a difference to their choices. All but two laughed. I think the world may have moved on a bit and this is emperors new clothes territory. Next we Will be told our money is being invested… Read more »
