Unemployed Claimants On The Island Increase

The number of unemployed claimants on the Isle of Wight continues to rise.

Unemployment Figures RiseAccording to the Office for National Statistics, the number of unemployed claimants on the Island in January 2011, increased to 3,574.

The number of claimants is 259 lower than in January 2010 and 226 higher than in December 2010. These data are not seasonally adjusted.

This represents a rate of 5.8% of the economically active population aged 16 to 64, the 222nd highest of the 650 UK constituencies.
