Chip Meets Radio 1 DJ Sarah Story

Vectis Radio presenter ‘finds’ Radio 1 presenter in the Giant Radio 1 DJ Hunt

After first spotting the Radio 1 outside broadcast truck parked on Sunday evening on the quay next to the River Medina in Newport, very near to the Vectis Radio studio, one of Vectis Radio’s presenters, Robert ‘Chip’ Clark, was intrigued and wondered why Radio 1 were on the Isle of Wight!

It all became clear on Monday morning during the Greg James Radio 1 breakfast show when it was announced at 8am that 30 Radio 1 DJs had been scattered all around the UK and Greg was tasked with finding them all so that the week’s schedules could be filled again and played by the correct hosts otherwise he would have to cover all of them.

Chip’s on the case
The Giant Radio 1 DJ Hunt had officially begun. Chip has been a volunteer DJ presenter at Vectis Radio for nearly ten years and he could not resist following up the story.

After spotting the Radio 1 truck on Sunday he knew that there was a strong possibility that one of the missing DJs might be found on the island.

Clues were provided on social media in the form of photos taken by the missing hosts and the public were asked to help Greg by trying to work out where the photos were taken.

Attention turned to the Island
On the first day, Monday, a number of DJs were successfully located. On Tuesday, the attention turned quickly to the Isle of Wight when a photo was posted showing a dinosaur and the public started speculating that it could be on the Isle of Wight.

Suggestions were made including Blackgang Chine, the Dinosaur Isle Museum in Sandown and Shanklin. However, after all the speculation it was discovered that the photo had been taken in the West Quay Shopping Centre in Southampton.

Presented from Cowes Parade
Two DJs had been located, Sarah Story and Sian Eleri. They were tasked to get over to the Isle of Wight as quickly as possible so that they could host their respective shows from the outside broadcast truck, which had earlier been found parked on Cowes Parade.

Chip decided he had to get to Cowes and see what was happening and join in the fun. He was not disappointed and after speaking to the Radio 1 producer he was able to arrange an interview with Sarah Story who presents the Future Dance Music Show on Radio 1.

Chip will be playing the interview with Sarah on his Chip Dance Hall Show on Saturday evening between 6pm and 7pm.

As has been said before; it’s a stitch-up by the government, the Missing Person and his cronies. Thank goodness that we have on line facilities these days and can see the plan for what it is.

Disgraceful and underhand by those in power.

Andrew Turner, in October said to onthewight, that he suggested it could be a community owned enterprise, which could be either outside or inside the franchise, for example it could be a “micro franchise”. Is this what is being suggested now for Island line? I wonder what is recommended in the Atkins report, because the data needed for the consultation should be included.

It’s insane to consult people about something they refuse to describe in any detail nor explain the rationale behind it – it’s as if neither the DfT or the MP and his cronies actually know where this is going, and are just hoping that someone else will figure it out.

It would appear that some civil servants at the DFT have neglected to cross some i’s and dot some t’s. Could it be that in their haste to secure a larger franchise bid they ignored the possibility that there could be a local challenge to their plans so didn’t feel the detail would be important? I can’t help but feel this consultation will be a complete waste… Read more »

Have a good friend who lives in a small town called Salrburn between Middlesbrough and Whitby they have a railway not to dissimilar to ours, the trains are old busy, at commuter times and not so busy during the day but a valuable commodity for the local community. The difference being is the local MP up there is prepared to fight tooth and nail to ensure the… Read more »

I’m sure if anyone attends any of the “consultation” meetings they’ll find they already have printed copies of the conclusions available for distribution.

I have a feeling that the consultation process is only going through the motions and the decisions and plans have already been laid out. Most workers that use the line will be at work when public meetings etc are arranged. I can understand people’s cynicism. Unfortunately any sceptical feelings are generated by the way the struggle to keep the railway line is engineered. If people can go… Read more »

Many good observations from the author. They have remarkable similarity to well-founded observations made against school reorganisation consultation material a few years ago. I wonder if he too will simply get a response ‘the views are not shared by the authority…’
