Vegan Friendly Ventnor: Another great step forward for this progressive town

Ventnor is leading the way once again, this time helping those who choose to lead a Vegan lifestyle.

Vegan Friendly Ventnor is a new initiative aimed at showcasing those businesses in the town that cater for Vegans (a person who does not eat or use animal products).

Whether it is vegan food or products you’re looking for, these natty signs outside several premises in the town will let you know whether they cater for Vegans.

A wide range of businesses
Lesley Genge from Lesley’s Nutshell on Pier Street (formerly the Ventnorian) first floated the idea about a year ago.

Although Lesley stocks health food products and caters for lots of Vegan customers, she was aware that other many businesses in town also do the same, such as The Kitchen at London House, which offers a Vegan cream tea in the summer season, or Hairshack, which uses and stocks Vegan friendly hair products.

Lesley got together with Carol Falkner from Hairshack and Julie, a local artist. Together they formed the initiative, Vegan Friendly Ventnor.

Festival and more
Several of the cafes and restaurants cater for Vegans, as do beauticians, the shoe shop and Ventnor Exchange, of which 48 of the 50 beers they stock are Vegan friendly.

This year also saw the very first Isle of Wight Vegan Festival in Ventnor Park and apparently there are plans for it to become a regular annual event.

This is a great initiative to draw visitors to the ever-progressive Ventnor, well done to all those involved.
