Ventnor Botanic Garden License Goes Under Review

The premises license for the Ventnor Botanic Garden is undergoing a review following complaints by local residents.

Ear defendersCalling themselves ‘Protecting Peace at the Gardens’, the group make a number of allegations of non-compliance with the conditions of the licence following ‘Jazz on the Meadow’ concert held on 21 and 22 May 2011.

Included in the conditions that the group claim were breached, was that visitors entered without tickets, giving donations on the door instead, in some cases just a few silver coins. (Although we didn’t attend, our understanding was that the donations were being collected for the Friends of the VBG. Ed)

Following a public consultation, the Police, Environmental Health and Trading Standards Service had no comment to make.

There was one response from the public in support and two in objection to the license.

The license review will go before the Licensing (Determinations) Sub Committee on 18th August. The paper is embedded below for your convenience and contains links to the license review application and supporting documents.
