The sun is shining and the skies are blue.
The perfect weather for a day of carnival parades and the start of the Ventnor Fringe Festival.
The children’s parade sets off at 2pm from Salisbury Gardens and does the Ventnor roundabout (ie. round the centre of town) ending up back at Salisbury Gardens for the crowning of the queens and the fancy dress judging.
Evening festivities
Then the evening parade assembles at 5.30pm for judging and sets off at 7pm for several laps of the Ventnor roundabout.
The day will be finished off with the regular fireworks display down on the esplanade, always a great spectacle and well organised.
The Winter Gardens, now sporting a new ATM, will be welcoming party goers to their Lantern Lounge, courtesy of the Ventnor Fringe Festival who have other activities taking place around the town during the day and evening.

If you’re not able to make it along to the carnival parades, here’s something we made earlier, well not us actually, but VentnorBlog Flickr Group member, Ventlindown, here’s some footage of the carnival back in the 1960s. Recognise anyone?
