The walkway on Ventnor Cascade has reopened – linking the town to the seafront once again.
After more than six months since it closed, the reopening of Rene Howe Walk will be officially marked on Good Friday — and according to XC Weather, by the afternoon it’s going to be far less windy and far more sunny than Thursday!
What to expect
The afternoon of activity begins at 1.30pm when the water fountain at the bottom of the Cascade — which has been lovingly restored thanks to the Ventnor Enhancement Fund — will be blessed by Rev Nicola Pinnock, Deacon at St Catherine’s Church.
There will also be the opportunity for people to meet Rev Tom Burden who will be joining the churches in Ventnor soon.
Ventnor Royalty
At 2pm the 2024 Ventnor Carnival Royalty will officially open the walkway.
The paddling pool has been repainted and filled and there’ll be lots for the kids to do, including:
- The Easter Bunny
- Surprise Pirates
- Free Easter Eggs
- Children’s Games
The Ventnor Ukulele Group and the Ventnor Comic Jazz Band will be provided musical entertainment and the cafes, pubs and restaurants along the seafront look forward to welcoming crowds of visitors.
Ventnor is open for business
There are still plenty of ways to get into Ventnor if you are planning to visit from outside the town. Read our FAQ for details of the various options.
Many thanks to all the Isle of Wight firms and staff who worked on the project, including Stoneham Construction, C45, DMR Engineering, Island Powder Coating and Electroplating, Wight Building Materials, MG Solutions and Island Roads.
Personal view
My personal opinion is that the former horizontal railings were much more attractive and in keeping with the surroundings, but Island Roads insisted that the new type of railings were required in order to meet the latest regulations.
