Ventnor Community Foodbank sees doubling of those needing support: Urgent appeal for volunteers and donations

A Community Foodbank in Ventnor is urgently seeking donations of food and volunteers to help run the service after demand soars.

Ventnor’s Community Foodbank is getting increasingly busier with 132 people in August (86 adults and 36 children) and 82 people fed in July (64 adults and 18 children).

Tony McCarthy says this is twice as many as they helped in the same months last year.

He explains,

“We need volunteers to join our Tuesday and Thursday teams – to meet and greet our customers, to stack shelves and stock take and prepare food parcels.

“Please give me a call on 07932 890 679 or e-mail [email protected].”

No referral needed
Ventnor Community Foodbank (VCF) do not require a voucher or referral and are open every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 10am to noon at Baby Box, Victoria Street, Ventnor – the former Ventnor Youth and Community Centre.

Call or text them on 07862 247694 or send a message via Facebook.

What’s needed this week
If you are in a position to help feed Ventnor families in need, this week the VCF is low on:

  • Tinned meat
  • Coffee
  • Tinned fish
  • Long life milk
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Toiletries
  • Jam/Marmite/Peanut butter
  • Sanitary products
  • Dog and cat food

They are also very short of heavy-duty shopping bags, so if you have a store of them at home, perhaps consider donating some to the VCF.

Tony went on to add,

“Thanks go to our amazing team of volunteers and the wonderful Ventnor community for their support and generous donations.

“Many thanks to Ventnor Golf Club and a number of anonymous donors for their generous support. Thanks to Ventnor Winter Gardens for organising a quiz night that raised over £250.”

Where to drop off items
Items can be dropped off at the donation points, which include, the Coop, Carnaby Tea Rooms, St Catherine’s Church, Norris Stores in Niton and at Baby Box-during opening hours.
