Ventnor community to hold candlelit vigil for Palestine this Saturday

This Saturday evening (30th Mar 2024), a candlelit vigil will be held by local people in Ventnor Park in solidarity and empathy with the people of Palestine.

It is very understandable to feel overwhelmed with grief and a sense of powerlessness at this time of horror. It is, however, important to witness, share and never forget.

A time to stay alert, watchful and on guard
The word ‘vigil’ comes from the Roman for ‘awake’. A time to stay alert, watchful and on guard.

There could not be a more relevant moment to come together in true wakefulness.

Hope in the midst of darkness
Candles lit will symbolise hope in the midst of darkness and express a commitment to justice and peace.

It will also represent a mourning for the thousands of people already lost.

Where and when
All are most welcome to gather at the bandstand in Ventnor Park, Park Ave, PO38 1LB from 5pm – 7pm on Saturday 30th March 2024.

How to get there
Ventnor can be accessed via Wroxall and Upper Ventnor, or via Whitwell. Lower Gills Cliff Road is still closed, so if coming from Whitwell head up Gills Cliff Road, turn right into Ocean View Road, right again into Zig Zag Road, left at the bottom, then right, swooping around the side of the Royal Hotel onto Park Avenue.

If coming from Upper Ventnor, follow the above instructions from the chip shop (on your right as you head down Ocean View Road).
