Regular readers will remember reading on VB last week about the Open Heritage Days planned in Ventnor at Alexandra Gardens and the Heritage Museum.
We’ve heard from John Allen, one of the residents of Alexandra Gardens, that the event was a huge success, not only for Alexandra Gardens but also the Ventnor Heritage Museum.
There was much buzz about the event beforehand. Alexandra Gardens was featured on the front cover of the national brochure for the event and on Thursday morning, Matt Treacy from Radio Solent was broadcasting live from Alexandra Gardens.
John told us that English Heritage thought they’d be doing well if they attracted 50-60 people each day.
However, they exceeded this amount by having nearly 500 people turn up on the two days. This is a great result not only for those who opened their doors, but also for the town which would have been exposed, perhaps, to some new visitors.
He went on to tell us that the Heritage Museum had its biggest attendance ever for this event (about double last year), which they put down to people being in town for both events.
Well done to John and everyone else involved. We hope to see the doors open again next year.
