O2 Touch rugby
Ventnor RFC has been selected to host O2 Touch rugby which will be delivered by the RFU Isle of Wight Community Rugby Coach Richard Freeman. The sessions are free to attend and are open to both male and female over the age of 14.
Running from Wednesday 3 June until Wednesday 8 July 2015 from 6pm to 8pm. Touch rugby is a great way to stay fit and learn the basics of rugby within a non-contact game. Further details can be found on the VRFC website.
Post-season round-up
Since the season-ending win away to Kingsclere, cementing their third place in Hampshire League 2, there have been a number of key events in the development of the club.
Host to touring sides The close of the season was followed by consecutive weeks of hosting touring sides with Cinque Ports RFC (Kent) and Old Guildfordians RFC travelling the first weekend followed by Blackwood RFC the following weekend.
As expected the rugby was laid back with an emphasis on fun and not injuries! The fun continued in the club house after with a great bar income that will obviously help the club next year with regards to ferry expenses.
The following weeks have seen a VRFC side take on Ventnor CC in a game of cricket which unexpectedly the rugby team won. We would like to thank Ventnor CC for hosting us and no doubt letting as win.
Walk the Wight
VRFC also had a major presence at the hospice Walk The Wight providing over 30 marshals for the charity event.
The club would like to extend its thanks to all the players, VPs, friends, families and anyone else we could “talk” into representing us that day and helping out such a worthwhile cause.
Tree felling
Another thank you needs to go out to all those that helped with the felling and clearing of the trees.
Two fantastic days work from all those that attended which could not have been done without the time that they all sacrificed.
Club dinner
The Club Dinner, held this year at Ventnor Winter Gardens, saw potentially the greatest Chairman’s speech ever delivered by a VRFC Chairman.
A mixture of players, both past and present, were present to see the annual awards, which this year went too: 1st XV Player of the Year Fergus Kenny, 2nd XV Player of the Year Adam Pratt Jnr, Most Improved Player Shaun Williams and Coach’s Player of the Year Andrew Gilbert.
Annual General Meeting
The AGM, as expected, saw a number of retirements from the current committee with Chairman Warren Riches, Secretary David Ball and 2nd XV Captain Jacobus Stemmet all stepping down from their positions.
Subsequently Nolan Winter was elected as the new Chairman and Stuart Babington as Club Secretary with Edward Blake and Adam Pratt Jnr taking over the 2nd XV Captaincy. The club would like to thank the committee for all the hard work that they have put in over the past year and wish every success to the new members on moving the club forward.
The club would also like to thank all the sponsors who made last season possible with their generous donations to the club.
