More interviews from the single hour that we were at the ‘never used’ skate park in Ventnor – yes, that’s three sets of people we spoke to in that short time … and counting.
Mitch, James and Toby are all late-teenagers from Shanklin.
They’re regular users of Ventnor skate park and have been for many years.
When we asked about closing down the skate park, they clearly understood the contradiction, “Telling us off for being on the street skating, then closing down parks. It’s just making it worse.”
There may be nine skate parks on the Island currently (by past performance it looks like ‘the powers that be’ aren’t very keen on keeping them open, see Niton; Ryde.
Let’s not forget that these parks are dotted around an Island that has just doubled the student bus rider, making it more difficult for younger people to get around the Island.
Ventnor skate park: Ambitions to be the best
