Ventnor Wombles Report: Litter Pick This Sunday

Another report in from Wendy, Ventnor’s very own litter picking Womble. Ed

On Sunday 29th August, Ventnor Wombles litter picked Wheelers Bay Car Park, Cowlease off Wheelers Bay Road.

The steps and footpath from St Catherine’s Street into the car park, the steps down to Wheelers Bay and the car park were all litter picked. Helped by Wombles Bryan and Anne on a visit from the famous Wombles of Wimbledon Common, four bin bags of rubbish were collected and disposed of.

It would be nice to have more helpers.

Beach cleans
By August of this year, more rubbish had been collected than by the end of the season last year, so the problem is getting worse. Friday 24th September is the last day of the beach-cleaners on Blue Flag beaches.

So it’s farewell from Tanya on Ventnor, Bonchurch and Orchard Bay beaches. Myself from Shanklin and Lake beaches and Peter our supervisor. But I will continue to litter with Pastiche in the Ventnor and surroundings areas.

Know of somewhere that needs clearing?
If you know of an area that could do with being litter picked then please call me Womble Wendy on 855947.

The next Wombles litter pick will be on Sunday 26th September at 10am,.

Meet at the car park opposite Nansen Hill, The Landslip carpark and picnic area (not Smuggler Haven Tea Room car park).

Just bring yourself, litter pickers and bin bags provided.

Pastiche does well at Woolverton
While not litter picking, Womble Pastiche took part in the dog show at Woolverton Manor on Sunday 5th September and came third in the “dog the judge would most like to take home”.

While at the show she met Erika Arnold from P.A.T.C.H. Ventnor. Pistache hopes to do something for the Boxing Day Swim to raise money for the charity.

Details to follow nearer the time.
