VentnorBlog’s Winter Warma: Part Two

As we mentioned yesterday, it’s National Energy Saving Week and in collaboration with The Footprint Trust, we have some handy tips for ways in which you can do your bit to help save energy. Here are some more ideas from Ray Harrington-Vail. Ed

As well as considering insulation (covered yesterday) there are other measures, which although are more expensive are still worth looking into.

Double or even triple glazing can reduce your fuel bills by at least 10%, depending on the state of your current windows. On top of that, they also add extra security to your home.

Upgrade to energy efficient heating
Many people in receipt of allowances such as Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit or War Disablement Pension can get energy efficiency measures for free and in some cases a new heating system.

Thanks to funding from the Big Lottery the Footprint Trust’s Warmahome project can do free home visits and give guidance on energy saving measures and arrange for insulation of Island homes.

To get some help ring them on 82-22-82.

Sustainable Living events
Don’t forget the two energy events planned for next week to you find out more about energy efficiency.

Warmahome will be there along with other specialist organisations.

There will also be information about renewable energy for the home, including solar.

If you’re planning to go to the Newport event at the Riverside Centre on Wednesday 28th October, you can have a go in a car simulator to test your green driving skills.

Watch out for part three of our Winter Warma coming up later in the week
