There has recently been much speculation as to the future of the Ventnor Winter Gardens. The very viability of this elegant venue has been called into question at Ventnor Town Council meetings and in local press.

We are pleased to announce that the Council have accepted our proposal for a bold new initiative to save, refurbish and promote the Winter Gardens. Since the original proposal, plans have moved forward a lot and involve more interested parties. Our project is based upon a business model utilized in successful arts venues throughout the UK.

Making use of the Arts Council funding and private donations we will deliver a state of the art venue built around music and the performing arts that will become a centre of excellence for contemporary and performing arts and a core venue for the artistic and wider community, a great deal of which chooses to live in and around Ventnor, to be involved in and enjoy.

Geri and Philip, who some will know from the Jazz Festival and related activities, have happily joined forces with Tim Snelling and Paul Butler of DIG promotions, who made the original proposal, to help add different knowledge and experience into the overall project.

We are currently in a phase of consultation with local organisations, current and future users of the facility as to how best we can serve the needs of the local arts scene and involve the wider community to see the Winter Gardens thrive to provide a place with a variety of things to do — for residents and holidaymakers alike. We welcome any proposals as to how we can best serve the needs of the local arts scene.

I am so pleased to hear this. If Geri and Philp can pull this off, it will be brilliant news for our community and I wish them every success. It fits in very well with all the hard work they have put into Ventnor Jazz. So congratulations to both of them!!! I am sure they have discussed the project with Stephen Munn, the Director Quay Arts for… Read more »

Question ? Can the stage be expanded enough to provide enough space for a performing arts group to work on. Up till now the Island has been lacking in this regard, save for a couple of venues. This was an issue Stephen at Quay Arts raised with me in 2004 concerning the re direction of the Portico Theatre in Shanklin. He was and I think still is… Read more »

This is all fantastic news, and highly welcomed.

From what I understand, Geri and Phil are a great recent addition to the team being headed up Tim Snelling and Paul Butler. I am sure they will bring a wealth of experience to the project.

Hopefully Tim or Paul will be able to provide more details of the project and it’s development through the forum.

And i also go on photoshop, though i prefer to learn how to use them on my own, it feels like acheiving something, so i don’t really like being taught on computers. I learn by my self. But it is fantasic news for those who need computer courses. Becuase at the moment i have to… Read more »

When we come over to the Isle of Wight we head for the Winter Gardens at least once during our stay every year. People are so pleasant we feel at home there. Carry on the good work and all the best to staying open. The Winter Gardens is an excellent venue for the communtity to meet up. It is worth every penny being spent on it. In… Read more »

Nice sentiments Kath, but this is a very old story and the days when the ‘Jazzers’, Geri Ward and Philip Snelling, where going to ride in and save the western world as we know it are long gone.
