Vestas Protest: Mike Godley Quashes Rumours of Campaign ‘Takeover’ (podcast)

Those following the twists and turns of the protest against the 600 job loses at Vestas will probably have also been following the reader’s comments left on our 136 articles about the dispute since it started back in July.

Vestas Protest: Mike Godley Quashes Rumours of Campaign 'Takeover' (podcast)Over the last week or so, some reader’s comments have inferred that the campaign has been ‘taken over’ by those involved who were not Vestas workers, such as the Trades Unions, Climate Change activists and Socialist Worker supporters.

Having been close to the Vestas workers since their beginning of their occupation, this is certainly not the impression we’ve had, so after the rally in Ryde on Saturday, we caught up with one of the occupiers, Mike Godley to hear what he had to say about these rumours.

He made it very clear that the campaign has been no way ‘taken over’ and continues to be driven by ex-Vestas workers.

He went on to say that they hugely appreciate the support that they’ve received from the outside groups and will continue to work with them to keep the fight going for more green jobs to be created on the Island.

NB: The next rally takes place at 1pm on Sandown Pier. There are also plans to hold a family fun day, another National day of Action and benefit concert in the very near future.

More details to follow soon.
