Vestas Protest: Peaceful Action Planned

Following the successful rally in Ryde on Saturday, further action is planned for this week. It starts with a picket line across the rear entrance of the site of the Newport based Wind Turbine plant.

Vestas Protest: Peaceful Action PlannedOccupiers of the plant tell us that they’d been given a tip-off that the ‘clean up’ operation was due to start this morning, with the intention for blades to be completed and shipped. The protesters hope to talk to those going in for the clean up about their view on the campaign.

Picnic Fun in the Job Centre
Following this, the occupiers have informed the local and national press that they intend to head to the Job Centre in Newport.

From midday, a peaceful picnic inside the Job Centre on Staplers Road is planned.

The aim of the picnic is for ex-Vestas workers to talk with other unemployed people feel about the campaign and perhaps pick up some further support.

Blankets to sit on and cups of tea will be make this peaceful picnic the best place to be on a Monday lunchtime.

Meeting with Isle of Wight Council
Following that, at 4pm occupiers of the Vestas plant will be meeting with Council Leader, David Pugh and Chief Executive, Steve Beynon.

Having bumped into David Pugh at Cowes Week, we were intrigued when he told us that the IWC had been having some very exciting talks regarding Vestas.

Will he have some good news to share with the occupiers? Find out on VB later today.

6pm Rally
As usual they’ll be another rally at 6pm outside the front of the Newport plant.

Organisers urge Islanders to go along to show their support and find out what action is planned for the coming weeks.
