Vestas: ‘Rescue talks’ with Mitsubishi and more job cuts

Vestas have featured heavily in business news pages over the last week. Firstly with news of a further 1,400 job cuts planned across the company and secondly that they are in what is being dubbed as “rescue talks” with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Readers may remember we reported back in April about rumours circulating in the City that that Chinese rivals were considering takeover bids for the Danish wind turbine manufacturer.

Vestas have this week confirmed that there are in talks with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries “regarding a potential strategic cooperation”.

They are expected to make an announcement if the dialogue results in an agreement.

No news on possible Island job cuts
We got in touch with Rob Sauven of Vestas R&D last week to see whether the planned job cuts would affect those working at the Isle of Wight offices.

At time of publishing he had still failed to respond. As always, once we do hear back, we’ll update you.

Back in February Vestas’ Chief Financial Officer and Deputy CEO both resigned and in June they pulled the plug on a new plant in Sheerness.
