Warning to expect severe disruption as dates for industrial action on the railways announced

Following the announcement of industrial action dates by the RMT union, South Western Railway services will be significantly affected between Tuesday 21st and Saturday 25th June 2022.

SWR is working closely with Network Rail and other train operators to finalise a significantly reduced timetable for those dates, but is warning customers to expect severe disruption on days impacted by industrial action.

Signallers and RMT members taking part
With Network Rail signallers and more than 2,100 SWR RMT members taking industrial action, it is likely that significant parts of the South Western Railway network will be unavailable for travel on those dates.

Where routes are open, it is likely that far fewer trains will run than normal.

This does not affect Island Line, as reported, their RMT members did not meet the legal threshold for industrial action.

Change travel plans
As a result, customers are urged to change their travel dates if they can and, for those who have to travel on those dates, to begin looking for alternative methods of transport.

Teams are also working to update hospitals, schools, airports and businesses across the network on what this will mean for them.

Mann: We’re carefully finalising contingency plans
Claire Mann, Managing Director of South Western Railway, commented,

“I understand that the announcement of upcoming industrial action will worry many of our customers, particularly against the backdrop of significant cost of living pressures.

“We are carefully finalising contingency plans, but I’m afraid this action will mean that many customers will be unable to travel by rail.

“If customers can change their date of travel, or make alternative arrangements, I urge them to begin making those arrangements as soon as possible.

“I appreciate how challenging this may be and would like to thank customers for their patience as the rail industry responds to this unprecedented industrial action.”

SWR will publish details of its reduced timetable when finalised and customers should check the Website for latest updates.

Trying to keep an open mind, but with the amount of liars, and those with poor memory in the Conservative Government I fear she may do what is best for the party and not the Island, but time will tell.

The last Tory Leader was awful as were most of his cabinet. The Tory Govt are finished, unelectable. Why on earth would anyone on the island support this continuation unless there was some form of vested interest?

“Keeping council tax increases to the lowest possible level“ along with “prepared to make the right – and sometimes difficult – decisions” sounds like a precursor to “unavoidable and regrettable cuts to non-statutory services” in the near future.

It will be a real shot in the foot as the nasty party expose themselves for what they truly are.

Who voted for this?

Bring back the Island Deal. Oh hang on that was never delivered by previous Conservative government and seems to have slipped off the Conservative council group menu.

The two items below can only be in conflcet with each other. Reuducing the number of schools means more cars on the road early morning to get children to school. Did you notice how quiet the roads were during the summer break between 8 and 9am 2Tackle the increasing crisis in school place planning, having regard for the need to avoid an adverse impact on the funding… Read more »

I am waiting to see their flagship development they keep shouting about on camp hill prison, lets see how quick they can build there or was the Alliance telling the truth and the council do not own the land. Remember Robinson kept on about this lets see if he pushes it now and measure him on that for the coming elections or just another Tory lie

Yet still the “Elephant in the Room” of us islanders being held to ransom by the ferry companies remains a taboo subject!

Taboo? Far from it.

I find the phrase “held to ransom by the ferry companies” a useful tool for identifying people I wish to avoid in conversation.
