Watch: Red Funnel terminal kiosk demolished by heavy goods vehicle, with staff inside (updated)

Just before 1pm today (Monday) the ticket kiosk at Southampton ferry terminal has been demolished by an HGV.

The incident was captured by Solent Ships ferry cam this lunchtime as the back of an HGV pulls the kiosk down as it turns into the waiting lane.

Several people affected
Many people within the terminal instantly rushed to the aid of the Red Funnel staff members who were checking in vehicles. It’s believed there were three people in the kiosk when it collapsed.

A car that was being checked in on the other side of the kiosk was also hit by the building as it collapsed.

Police and paramedics are on the scene and luckily there have been no significant injuries.

News OnTheWight has been in touch with Red Funnel for a status on the people inside the kiosk and are expecting an update imminently.

A spokesperson from Red Funnel, said,

“Following a traffic accident at Terminal 1 in Southampton this afternoon we are expecting delays and increased levels of traffic in the Town Quay area.

“Three Red Funnel colleagues were inside a check in kiosk which was struck by a HGV this afternoon. Our priority is the safety of our team members and passengers, and although there are no significant injuries, both Police and Ambulance services are in attendance as a precaution.

“The incident area has now been secured and we are currently operating a shuttle service to clear traffic as quickly as possible. We advise anyone travelling today to arrive no sooner than 30 minutes prior to departure and to check the service status on the Red Funnel website where updated departure and arrival times are available on the Website. Only passengers with a booking are advised to travel to the terminal.”

Quick actions of staff
Members of staff, as well as customers were seen heading straight over to the kiosk moments after it collapsed. Terminal staff acted swiftly to ensure cars arriving at the terminal could take an alternative route.

Our thoughts are with the staff members for a speedy recovery from what must have been an incredibly scary incident.

Our thanks to News OnTheWight friends Solent Ships Ferry Cam.
